Right, Princess, I'd forgotten about that. She was very good in that. But her big roles are quite few and far between these days.
Meryl Streep, Diane Keaton, Jodie Foster, Charlize, AJ, Halle, CZJ, Ashley Judd. All would be fine with me as they are more talented and don't play different versions of the same person (the loveable prostitute, the loveable maneater, the loveable chick trying to hookup with her best friend). So over Julia. She's so 90s.
I have to disagree with you Pixie, Julia was okay in "Closer", but not top notch. Natalie Portman upstaged her in every scene just as Clive Owen did to Jude Law and that's why the co-stars got nominated for the most awards. I would have still liked the movie without Julia but not without Natalie. I think the last thing Julia was really good in was "Erin Brokovich". I can't think of an actress that deserves to be the highest paid because the best movie scripts and roles go to men. I think Hollywood needs to write some good female stories and not the basic romantic comedy, I live in New York and find love stuff they usually write. I agree with some of EP picks such as Angelina Jolie, Halle Berry, definitely Meryl Streep, Diane Lane, CZJ etc, but not Charlize because she's pretty but she has never brought in big box office money for Hollywood.
why do you think i said she did? i do love her - but i dont think shes the best actress in hollywood. the actress who to me is most deserving of the highest paid jobs is Dame Judi Dench.
Oh yes PP, Dame Judi should def be on that list. I'm adding Uma and Dame Judi to my list of far more deserving actresses. I LOVE her old BBC show As Time Goes By. Frankly, I don't think Julia or the rest of the sweetheart bunch are exceptional actresses. They are seemingly loveable people with commercial appeal. That doesn't equate to talent.
PP, I love Dame Judi Dench also, but you know Hollywood's rules are you have to be young, hot, and American to be the highest paid actress. I wish it were different for actresses and they could be judged on their talent more than their looks.
I love that show too EP, its absolutely hillarious. I especially love Lionel. he is so like my father it is uncanny!
Britcoms are soooo much better. Have you watched UK's Coupling? It makes America's favorite funnies look like pre-school level performances. Excellent comedic timing. Much better writing. Much better actors. I also like Keeping Up Appearances and Are you being served?
I loved Keeping Up Appearances and Are You Being Served! Even the dumb Britcoms like the one about the superhero guy are funnier than most American sitcoms.
I dont think we get coupling - i like Keeping Up Appearances, AbFAb, The Office (the american one is SOOOOO not as good, sorry), Smack the Pony, Some Mothers Do Have 'Em, Fawlty Towers, Little Britain, but As Time Goes By is prolly my favourite - i havent seen 'Are You Being served'. is that about a shop? i think iv heard of it.
EP, I watched a whole "Coupling" marathon on the BBC America channel. It was very funny, my favorite so far was the "Spiderman" theme song kiss episode with Sally. We Americans have kind of grown beyond comedy but we still have three that are good, "Everybody Hates Chris", "My Name is Earl" and "The Office" are some of the best. We have the lock on drama and thriller shows though because the whole world is watching/talking about "Sopranos", "24", "Lost" and our other hit shows.
Ooooooooooooh sweetie, sweetie, sweetie, I adore AbFab!
I like As Time Goes By too, more of a drama, though.
sorry cali - your 'the office' is a direct rip from Ricky Gervaise's 'the office', which is funnier - HILLARIOUS!
PP, I have seen the Brits version on DVD and agree that it's 100 times funnier, but we have so few comedies left on American TV that even the mediocre ones are kind of good. I have a theory that since we have become such a Prozac/Zoloft nation nothing can get us down, so seeing Jack Bauer get tortured on "24" is the closest we can get to a sad emotion.
My Name Is Earl and Everybody Hates Chris are crappy IMHO. I've watched 1 episode of US Office, and it's okay.
If you don't get BBC America, go to Netflix and rent Coupling. You'll LOVE it, esp if you can stomach American sitcoms.
I have to say that American dramas like Law & Order are pretty awesome, but there are some really crappy ones.
A podcast is like a recorded radio show but broadcast over the Internet. You can get his through iTunes. Hilarious!
whats netflix? im sorry *hangs head in shame* podcast. netflix. I LIVE IN COUNTRY AUSTRALIA WE ONLY GOT THE INTERNET A FEW YEARS AGO! lol.
Oooooooo, British t.v...now we're talking. And I agree with EP Judi Dench deserves those millions and then some! I grew up in England so loved all the Britcoms. Another good one with another brillant comedian/actress is The Vicar of Dibley with Dawn French. And for drama Spooks is way better than 24 could ever be. Matthew McFadyen (Mr.Darcy in Pride and Prejudice movie) is in that.
LOL Pix, that's ok you guys and your bowls of lollies and bonds confuse the heck out of me! Netflix is a DVD rental service that mails DVDs to you and you mail them back when you're done watching them. It's very cool.
PP, Netflix is this DVD service in America where you pay like $20 a month to get unlimted DVD's in the mail. You can go online and pick the one's you want sent and then when you finish you send them back in the prepaid envelopes. It's great and a lot of people use it, though I've heard in some parts of the country it's kind of slow which means it takes 4 days. Damn we Americans have turned into an impatient nation
4 days!?? Damn. I so wouldn't pay for that! Impatient, indeed. We have a distribution center right here in town, so our turnover is overnight.
you serious? wow. do you ALL have ipods or something? we have a Videoezy a couple of towns away. i live in the sticks. my friend has an ipod.
im so 3rd world.
Me neither jen and pp but I desperately want one. I've rationalized to myself that I'd be much more motivated to get out and run if I had an ipod.
awww, SENT TO YOUR DOOR????
ONE DAY I WILL MAIL YOU ALL A COPY OF OUR TV GUIDE. WE HAVE 5 CHANNELS. FAWLTY TOWERS IS STILL SHOWN IN PRIME TIME.
bloody seppos.
You guys don't have Ipods, I can't blame you kidcrazy2 and PP because you aren't American, but Jennifer76 why oh why. I have a video Ipod which I got at a discount price and a 1 GB Nano that only cost me $100. They are really selling for cheap and since the mini's aren't being made anymore some of them are going for under $100. Everyone I know has an Ipod and me and my friends saw a homeless guy with a Shuffle her in San Francisco last week, I kid you not.
caligirl, a homeless guy may have no money, but a grad student has NEGATIVE money.
LOL caligirl, I'm SO behind the times.
Pix, if it makes you feel any better, I don't have cable at all.
No channels.
PP, five channels is barbaric, we must get you out of the sticks and into America. You can have an Ipod with accessories that cost a fortune, over 1000 channels of nothing to watch, and loads of DVD's in your mailbox that you are too busy to watch.
At my school, they are using Ipods to let you download notes for class, but most people are really just in class playing games or listening to the new Busta Rhymes album while the professor thinks he's "getting throgh" to us young people, LOL.
I make my own fun, i rock on the verandah with the cat and pick off cockatoos with my bbgun.
I envy you PP, we have all these "things" in America, but we are too busy working or going to school and lessons etc to really enjoy them.
EP...Mr. Darcy makes me see spots he's so darn sexy!
Jen...I don't have cable either! That's why I sit and watch the aforementioned Mr.Darcy on dvd all the time.
Confession: I don't own a TV. I go to my neighbors and sit there with my lap top and watch TV or I go to the gym. The advanced technology I own: cell phone that you can call people on (very basic) and lap top.
Go to the gym...that's what I should do EP. I want a laptop and an ipod. This really sucks but I don't even have a cellphone.
PP...I'm coming out to you girl so I can play with your BB gun.
oh, you'd love my kodak disposable cameras. bought in 8 packs. opened one several months ago. have taken a handful of pictures. i'm in the 19th century
ep thats so cute!
i have a small old tv i have to 'warm up', a dvd/vcr, a laptop, a mobile phone and a kettle. id like a microwave.
kid, i was joking about the bbgun. guns are illegal and i would never have one knowingly.
I can't live without my microwave, but someone could have the stove because it's hardly every used.
PP...I know, they're scary. Some young guys living behind us have one and were trying to pick off the deer that roam around here. I was petrified that they were going to hit one of my kids as well. I think they received a visit from a nice friendly police officer as I haven't seen them out firing lately.

If this was 1995, then yes. But now, when I can't even think of what her last big role was, no.
